PE and Sports Funding

PE and Sport Premium

What is the PE and Sport Premium?

The PE and Sport Premium is additional government funding provided to primary schools to improve the quality of physical education (PE), sport and physical activity.

The funding is used to develop and enhance opportunities beyond the school's core PE curriculum, helping children to enjoy being active, develop their skills and confidence, and establish healthy habits that will benefit them throughout their lives.

At Kempshott Junior School, we believe that PE, sport and physical activity play an important role in children's physical health, wellbeing and personal development. We aim to provide a wide range of opportunities that enable all pupils to participate, develop their abilities and experience the enjoyment of sport.

How do we use the funding?

We use our PE and Sport Premium to support improvements in the quality, range and accessibility of physical education and sporting opportunities.

Our priorities include:

Increasing participation and physical activity

Providing opportunities for pupils to take part in physical activity and sport, both during and beyond the school day, and encouraging children to develop active, healthy lifestyles.

Broadening sporting opportunities

Enabling pupils to experience a range of sports and activities, including opportunities to participate in clubs, sporting events and competitions.

Supporting inclusion

Helping to ensure that all pupils, including those with additional needs or who may face barriers to participation, can access and enjoy physical activity and sport.

Developing sustainable provision

Investing in opportunities, resources and appropriate staff development that help us improve PE and sport provision for current pupils and those joining our school in the future.

We regularly review how the funding is used and evaluate its impact on pupils' participation, confidence and achievement.

Swimming and Water Safety

Swimming and water safety are important parts of the PE curriculum at Kempshott Junior School.

Our pupils have opportunities to develop their swimming skills and understanding of water safety. We monitor their progress towards the national curriculum expectations, including swimming at least 25 metres, using a range of swimming strokes effectively and performing safe self-rescue.

Year 6 swimming outcomes – 2025/26

National curriculum expectation Pupils achieving
Swim competently, confidently and proficiently over at least 25 metres 77%
Use a range of strokes effectively 54%
Perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations 77%

These outcomes are reviewed alongside our PE and Sport Premium expenditure to help identify areas for further improvement.

Our PE and Sport Premium Reports

Each year, we review how the PE and Sport Premium has been spent, the difference it has made to pupils and how improvements will be sustained.

Our annual reports provide information about:

  • The funding received and how it has been spent.

  • The activities and opportunities supported.

  • The impact on pupils' participation and achievement.

  • How improvements will be sustained.

  • Year 6 swimming and water safety outcomes.
